South Korea proposes university cooperation with BME
2025. 03. 03.
According to Rector Charaf Hassan, a partnership with two higher education institutions and industrial players in the city of Ulsan could offer good opportunities.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Mr Hong Kyudok, visited BME and met with Rector Charaf Hassan. During the meeting, the ambassador said that South Korean companies are satisfied with the engineers who graduate here and that is why they are regular participants of the BME Job Fair. He also urged the BME to build connections in terms of student exchange and research with two universities in Ulsan, ranked high in international rankings - namely, the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) and the University of Ulsan (UOU).
Mr Charaf Hassan thanked the proposal and said that he saw good opportunities for cooperation with academia and business in the Ulsan region. He mentioned that several of the internationally renowned Korean companies are important players in Hungary, from Samsung to Hyundai and to LG - and that BME has actual experience of joint projects with Hyundai. He added that student mobility is also an important opportunity:
there are South Korean students currently participating in BME's English-language courses, and BME students could gain valuable experience from a semester in South Korea.
In the recent Erasmus+ scholarship competition, several students from BME have won the opportunity to travel to partner universities in South Korea. Applications are currently being invited for this summer's UOU Summer University, with two students to represent BME.
Mr Péter Kiss, Dean’s Rep for International Affairs at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, also attended the meeting.
