Centre of Modern Languages
Language education, language examination and language mediation at BME
The BME Centre of Modern Languages (INYK) is responsible for foreign language education at BME. INYK organises and manages the (specialist) language education of students, language development of the university's lecturers and staff, and operates the Centre for Interpreter and Translator Training, as well as the BME Language Examination Centre, which provides accredited language examinations. In addition, it coordinates translations at the university and builds the BME terminology database to support the uniform use of university language.
Student language education
BME students can learn a foreign language free of charge, as well, while studying at the university. General and specialist language courses are available in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish, and Hungarian as a foreign language is also an option. Language education is practice-oriented and takes place in small groups. Students can also take courses in skills development, level maintenance and grammar systematisation. And as a credit subject, they can acquire specialist language skills that support professional language use (business language, technical language), language use in the workplace (intercultural communication, communication skills development) or language use at university (TED presentations). The Centre also offers faculty specific English specialist language courses for foreign students. For more information on student language education, please visit the BME INYK website.
BME Language Examination Centre
The BME Language Examination Centre offers state accredited written, oral and complex language examinations in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish at basic, intermediate and advanced levels. Thousands of students take BME language examinations every year in around 30 locations across the country, in a candidate-friendly setting. For more information on the language examinations available, the question sets, venues and current issues, please visit the BME Language Examination Centre website.
BME Centre for Interpreter and Translator Training
At the BME Centre for Interpreter and Translator Training, students with at least B2 level language competence and a bachelor's degree can study in 5 different postgraduate specialist training programmes in full-time, evening and distance learning formats. At one of the country's leading translation and interpreting schools, students who speak multiple languages have the opportunity to participate in several training programmes simultaneously, with different hours. So at the end of their training, they can obtain two degrees. For more information on available training programmes, courses and workshops, please visit the website of the BME Centre for Interpreter and Translator Training.
BME Language School
Students at BME also have the opportunity to study languages within the institution beyond the supported units. At BME Language School, BME students and external interested parties can learn a foreign language in a higher education setting, with qualified teachers, at affordable and realistic prices. In addition to students, INYK also organises language courses for university lecturers and non-teaching colleagues. More information is available on the BME Language School website.
