Chinese elite university starts building links with BME

USTC, one of the top 9 Chinese higher education institutions, could even launch a joint course with BME.

Representatives of one of China's most prestigious universities were hosted by the BME's International Relations Department. The professors from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), member of the so-called Group C9 (the Chinese Ivy League) and 133rd in the QS world rankings, were mainly from the fields of chemical engineering and natural sciences.

The leader of the delegation, Kun Qu, is a professor of artificial intelligence, specialising in extra-chromosomal DNA research. He was accompanied by four professors, namely, physicist Yongquan Xue, immunologist Tengchuan Jin, chemical scientist Mingming Ma and mathematician Shiping Liu. The delegation was received by Gergely Zaránd, Vice Rector for Science, András Szarka, Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Technology and Biotechnology (VBK), Alfréd Kállay-Menyhárd, Vice Dean for International Affairs of VBK, Anna Babarczy, Vice Dean for International Affairs of the Faculty of Natural Sciences (TTK), and Péter Bálint, Director of the Institute of Mathematics of TTK.

The aim of the visit was to establish contacts, exchange programmes and explore the possibilities of joint training.

The parties agreed to work out the details of an Erasmus+ student exchange agreement in addition to the conclusion of a general cooperation agreement.

Balázs Bárány presented the activities of the Institute of Mathematics, Péter Makk the Institute of Physics and Anna Babarczy the Department of Cognitive Science. András Szarka presented research in the Laboratory of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (pictured below).

Associate Professor Péter Antal from the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Systems Engineering, Associate Professor Péter Kiss from the Department of Electrical Power Engineering and Bíbor Bánfiné Klekner, Erasmus Coordinator from the Directorate of International Relations, attended the meeting.
