The overwhelming majority of new students at the BME have scored at least 90 out of 100 institutional points.

In September, the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) will welcome a new batch of outstanding students. In this year's admission procedure, the vast majority of new applicants had outstanding results: they scored at least 90 out of 100 institutional points. In total, 4772 students will start their studies in the autumn, 3694 in bachelor's, 868 in master's and 210 in master's and 210 in undivided training programmes.

Despite the new admission system, it is clear that BME remains the choice of the best. The average score of students admitted to bachelor's and master's programmes is above 400, in several cases even 430. More than 90 per cent of those admitted to the BME have achieved outstanding extra achievements, such as foreign language knowledge or competition results, which have earned them the maximum 100 institutional points.

"The balanced secondary school performance and the dedication of the applicants admitted is commendable. Two-thirds of them gained admission with a score calculated by summing up their scholastic and graduation scores, which shows that they have performed at a consistently high level throughout their secondary school studies", emphasised Péter Bihari, Deputy Rector for Education. He also pointed out that a large number of the applicants had achieved advanced A-levels in two subjects, which raised their admission scores even higher.

Péter Bihari pointed out that a degree from the BME could give an extra 100,000 forints to the average salary in Hungary. Looking at the post-employment earnings of graduates of several training programmes, BME graduates earn significantly more than the average graduate with the same qualification. The National Education Office's Graduate Career Tracking System records gross wages by training programme, so it is possible to compare the negotiating position of former students on the job market.

The value of a university degree is also enhanced by its international recognition. According to the latest European ranking by QS, the UK ranking agency, BME is ranked 12th in the region overall - and 1st among domestic higher education institutions in two indicators, namely, the number of foreign students accepted and the number of publications. It came second in terms of employer reputation and of exchange students sent.
