International Student Recruitment Experts Meet at BME

2024. 02. 26.

International student recruiters from six countries across two continents gathered at BME. Their work is also aided by the revamped and regularly updated BME Xplore website.

The two-day event featured talks, a workshop, a campus tour, and a laboratory visit. BME experts also presented the University’s internationalisation objectives to its partners. In accordance with these goals, BME has become one of the first Hungarian universities to set up a website specifically for foreign students. The foreign experts in attendance were introduced to updates made to BME Xplore, our English-language website. Students from over 80 countries pursue their studies at BME, with approximately 1,000 foreign students enrolling annually in one of our 41 English-language training programmes, including 8 BSc and 11 MSc courses.

Emília Csiszár, Vice Rector for International Affairs at BME, shared insights with bme.hu regarding the recent meeting and BME’s international admissions information website. ‘BME currently has collaboration contracts with over 40 international student recruitment agencies. To promote our training programmes and further increase the number of international students, it is essential for international recruitment experts to be informed - through in-person meetings and informal discussions - about BME’s course offerings, our latest achievements bolstering the University’s global reputation, measures helping student integration under the Student Career Path Programme, the diverse and dynamic efforts of the International Mentor Team, and the opportunities available to our international students through EELISA, a European university association. Furthermore, the insights shared by our guests regarding the reasons students from their respective countries prefer studying abroad over studying at home, the criteria they consider while choosing a country, and the primary factors influencing their choice of university are invaluable to us. This exchange has therefore proven highly beneficial for both parties, and I believe it is essential that we organise the meeting annually.’ The Vice Rector shared that ‘extensive research into the design of prestigious foreign universities’ websites preceded the creation of the BME Xplore website. The website presents our training programmes and application requirements in detail, aiming primarily to inform and assist our prospective students.’

The menu outlining English-language training programmes contains an overview of Preparatory, BSc, MSc, and PhD programmes offered at BME in English. Detailed descriptions of each academic programme are accessible by clicking on the programme titles. The updated platform provides information on the application process, language requirements and tuition fees, as well as scholarship opportunities. On the main page, you’ll discover the University’s latest introduction video and former international students’ accounts on why prospective students should consider choosing BME. The website not only showcases the continuously expanding array of training programmes but also offers students a wealth of information for navigating administration and processes such as enrolment, the mentoring programme, housing and transportation, along with a calendar summarising the current term’s schedule.  Additionally, the site provides a glimpse into student life in Budapest, highlighting the city’s cultural scene, main attractions, and opportunities that make it an attractive destination for international students, not only for education but also for leisure and career pursuits. The site reflects the progressive spirit and professionalism of BME with its fresh, youthful approach and user-friendly interface.
