2024. 01. 26.

The signing of the new cooperation agreements could further expand scientific cooperation between Vietnam and Hungary, said Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

Tibor Czigány, Rector, and Emília Koczkáné Csiszár, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, represented the Budapest University of Technology and Economics at the signing ceremony of the new agreement. The event saw the rectors of BME and the University of Transport and Communications (Hanoi) renew the 2018 agreement with their signatures.

Over the years, several international joint research projects and study exchanges have been carried out between higher education institutions in the two countries: at present, 4 BME students are in Vietnam under the ERASMUS programme, and 35 Vietnamese students are studying at BME. The number of students from the South-East Asian country is expected to increase thanks to the newly strengthened cooperation.

Welcoming the new higher education cooperation agreements between Hungarian and Vietnamese universities, the Prime Minister of Vietnam explained how young people can promote and enhance scientific cooperation by building on a mutually inspiring partnership. He also noted that such partnerships can flourish even between countries located as far apart as Vietnam and Hungary. Highlighting the importance of preparedness and adaptability in an unpredictable world, the Vietnamese Prime Minister encouraged young people to become the true drivers of new initiatives and innovations.

Over the past decades, approximately 3,000 Vietnamese students have graduated from Hungarian higher education institutions, and around 500 students from the South-East Asian country are currently studying in Hungary. The 2nd Hungarian-Vietnamese Rectors' Conference – hosted by the National University of Public Service – strengthened the ever-closer educational cooperation between the two countries.
