After finishing their master training programme, those interested in scientific work and a career as a researcher can continue their studies at BME’s doctoral programmes. PhDs are available in a number of disciplines in various doctoral schools, as well as DLAs (Doctor of Liberal Arts) in the independent creative practice of architecture.

Who can apply for a doctoral programme?

Anyone who has an MSc degree, a language qualification and has at least a basic level of scientific background, and who envisages a career in research and academia.

What does the recruitment process usually look like?

Applications for doctoral programmes must be submitted in writing (the deadline is usually 31 May for autumn trainings and 31 December for mid-year trainings). Written applications must be accompanied by a curriculum vitae, documents proving your qualifications and language competence, a research plan and a letter of motivation.

The admission procedure includes a professional oral interview with representatives of the Faculty Doctoral Council, who select the candidates for the doctoral programme on the basis of written application papers and the results of oral interviews.

How long does a doctoral programme take?

Trainings based on the recommended curriculum are 4 terms long. Trainings start in the autumn term, and also in spring as a cross-term training.

The activities of PhD students include scientific research, learning professional subjects and teaching.
